30-in-30!!!

Hi Everyone!

So I have just had this cool idea whilst driving home from dropping Saana off to school, and its all thanks to Kate Walker!! ;)

Kate recently contacted me on Facebook asking about how I make my green smoothies (without exotic ingredients, LOL!) and she and her husband are going to start having green smoothies for breakfast too! I thought it was so cool that by me talking about this, it has inspired someone else to give it a go - perhaps they had already heard of green smoothies etc and now after reading how great i'm finding them, it was just that extra little "push" they needed? Who knows! But regardless I think its just awesome!

So here is my little brainwave: how about we try to SPREAD that love? I'm going to start small and ask that 30 of you, my friends, family and followers, make the choice to join me in having a Green Smoothie for breakfast each day, by the end of 30 days, so 30-in-30! All you need is a blender, some leafy greens, some beautiful fresh fruits (and nuts too if you like) and a positive attitude! To join me in this, leave a comment on my blog, or on my wall on Facebook, or email me and let me know you're joining in, and lets see if we can have 30 of us by the 6th of March!

All you need to do: 1) Start whizzing up and enjoying your own Green Smoothies for breakfast each day. 2) Start feeling totally awesome in the morning and always being "bright-eyed and bushy-tailed"!!!
3) Contact me by commenting on the blog, or via Facebook or email, to let me know you've joined the 30-in-30 project!

What I will do: 1) Continue posting daily or at a minimum every 2nd or 3rd day on this blog, and in particular; 2) Post information about Green Smoothies, why drink them, benefits, how to, etc 3) Provide ideas/recipes for different flavour combinations for your green smoothies! 4) Keep track of the number of people joining and be your "Green Smoothie Cheerleader"! LOL :D

Love and Health! xxxx

  1. Go Brook! I think there's a green smoothie revolution happening - everyone's talking about them :D That's great. Haven't had mine yet today - had young coconut water & meat, some mango, and buckwheat-almond-quinoa-blueberry pancakes for breakfast! If I miss it in the morning, I have it for afternoon tea :) Love 'em!

  2. Count me in. I love this idea, and it's just the extra "push" I need to make sure I squeeze a green smoothie in each day.

    1. Amanda thanks so much for joining in! The only difference is a green smoothie has no dairy (so don't put milk in if you usually do) and it has some leafy greens in it! If you use Baby Spinach or Butter Lettuce to start with no it doesn't change the taste too much at all, you can move on to other greens later once you're used to it. I'm putting recipes up each night for the next day starting tonight. Have added facebook like button on the top right of the blog, hopefully you can find me from there. :D

    2. does kefir count as milk? im guessing it does, i cant have lettuce but baby spinach should be fine, what other greens? with all my supplements in there it doesnt taste fab anyways!

    3. Yes Kefir is made with cows, goats or sheeps milk so its still dairy. Any leafy greens you want, experiment and let me know what tastes good lol!

  5. Yep, I'm in. We recently watched a David Wolfe DVD in which he talked about the importance of having a liquid breakfast because our digestion is sluggish in the morning etc. My 11yo son overheard what I was listening to, and said he wants to do it too. So we now start the day with 2-4 glasses of lemon water, and then a smoothie (usually green). Some days we have a green juice, THEN a green smoothie (other days we have the juice later in the day, but always on an empty stomach). I'm always looking out for inspiration and new recipes to try, so count me in! (Now I've just got to get the other members of the family interested lol)

  10. Well, this is divine intervention or something. Only today I walked into my local green grocer and asked if there was any Kale nearby. :) I have been inspired by the docco "Fat, SIck and Nearly Dead" and have decided to incorporate a vegie and fruit juice into my day. Would you mind terribly if I don't have it for breakfast? I can't get out the ingredients that my intolerant kids can't eat while they're still at home. But when they're at school, all bets are off!! Oh, I get 2 bunches of Kale tomorrow. ;)

    1. Welcome frillypants! So fabulous that you've decided to join in! :D You're number 12! I think a green smoothie is best first thing in the morning as it really kick-starts your day, BUT I don't think it REALLY matters when you have it. Having one at any time of the day is better than not having one at ALL! So have it whenever you want - maybe a mid-morning power smoothie would be just thing thing for you! I'm so jealous of the Kale, I keep hearing about how awesome it is but its not really in season here so I haven't been able to get hold of any yet! What are your kids intolerant to out of curiosity?

      Delete
    2. Actually, it's only one child who is intolerant... but all of them, and Mr frillypants and I all eat the same food. My second DD can't process Salicylates, Amines and glutamate which occur naturally in foods. It causes all sorts of behavioural/emotional/learning issues for her. So we eat fruit/veg/meat etc that is naturally low in all these chemicals. I was told that Kale isn't in season... but that some small growers are still doing it. Lucky for me they do a run to the city every few days.

    1. Hi Fi welcome! I just did a refresher post today about this challenge and linked the two posts you need to read to get started. But basically just stock up on your favourite fruits, and some baby spinach, and start blending up fruit with the spinach, ice and water into delicious smoothies. Then start feeling like you've had a double shot of espresso - but without the crash afterwards! :D You're number 24! Make sure to comment on today's post to enter into the draw to win a book. B xx
